Train the Trainer (Introductory Award in Training Skills by City & Guilds)

City & Guilds has designed the Introductory Award in Training Skills for those delivering training or who are employed in post-16 education and training. The programme aims to reflect the international nature of the knowledge, skills and activities needed for different countries, cultures, and industries.

Who is this qualification for?

•    This is an introductory course that will suit you if you are delivering training or you are employed in post-16 education and training.
•    candidates who require a qualification to improve their knowledge and skills to prepare for a higher level of teaching, training and assessing learners
•    centres who wish to run teaching, training, and assessing learning qualifications for their current staff to support existing courses

What does the qualification cover?

It is aimed at enabling candidates to gain a basic introduction to how to train and assess others. In undertaking the course, candidates will:
•    cover the basic theory of training and assessing
•    perform practical activities, allowing them to demonstrate the skills required to train others
•    partake in group discussions and a knowledge quiz
•    carry out an assessed activity, on a topic of their choice, enabling them to train others.

What opportunities for progression are there?
An Introductory course provides a number of opportunities for progression both within the City & Guilds framework of qualifications and those available in the country that offers it.
Progression to the Advanced Diploma qualification is possible providing candidates meet the entry requirements.

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have a reasonable level of English language and literacy skills.

Age restrictions

The expected minimum age limit attached to candidates undertaking the qualification is 18 unless there is a requirement by local, regional, or national law

Structure  
To achieve the City & Guilds Introductory Award in Training Skills, learners must attend a minimum of two days (depending on your experience&skills the days may increase) of training, providing skills and practice to facilitate, present, and/or train others in basic and routine activities, this will include:
•    preparation
•    delivery
•    assessment.
For this qualification, candidates will be required to complete the following assessments:
•    demonstrating practical training skills
•    completing a multiple-choice quiz to test knowledge.

On this qualification, the instructor will ensure that you have a clear understanding and practice on the following topics:

-   Ground rules
-   The training cycle
-   Identify learners
-   Plan training
-   Delivering training
-   Aims and objectives
-   Gaining and maintaining attention
-   Motivation
-   Assess learning
-   Giving feedback
-   Evaluation
The qualification will end with theoretical and practical assessment.
 

Initial assessment 

Before starting the course, you will be invited to do a short interview to determine any additional training needs you have as well as the duration of the training suitable for you based on your experience and skills level. It will also help you identify any skills gaps and sections where you might have difficulty.
We won't let you hand over any money until we're sure the qualifications are right for you.
Assessment process 
Grading
The course is assessed by delivery of a ten-minute training session and taking a multiple-choice quiz during the last day.
Grading of activities for this qualification is pass, refer or fail. 
Certification
Upon completion of the requirements, candidates will be awarded an official City and Guilds accredited certificate.
